Secondary School English

Years 7 and 8 have been looking at WW1 poetry in the build-up to Remembrance Day, in particular, the poems Suicide in the Trenches and Dulce et Decorum Est.  They have been developing comparison skills by looking at similarities and differences between the themes and structure of the two poems.  Y9 have studied Moonfleet and are now planning their own piece of creative writing based on the short story The Monkey’s Paw

Year 10 have been studying Great Expectations and focusing on how the key characters are portrayed.  Before half-term, they worked producing different types of transactional writing.  In Year11 we are busy preparing for Functional Skills exams which should, hopefully, be completed before Christmas.
