Remembrance Day

The Primary Department have been learning about the importance of Remembrance and the significance of poppies.  We were shocked to find out that these have been made by disabled veterans since 1922 and that the factory was set up to give ex-servicemen and women employment after the First World War.

We made our own Poppy out of a recycled 2-litre coke bottle and acrylic paint and we took it along to the Cenotaph last Thursday: on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. We stood alongside others and took part in a 2-minute silence.  One of our pupils spoke about how special it was to have been able to speak to different veterans and look at their medals. The veterans praised our young pupil’s kindness and fantastic manners and said that she had “Made their day!”
