Staffordshire Police Cadets

Police Cadet Information Sheet

The Staffordshire Police Cadet Scheme was one of the promises made by the first Police and Crime Commissioner when he took office in 2010. Since then we have seen the start of 10 units at Stafford, Cannock, Burslem North Stoke, Tamworth, Longton South Stoke, South Staffs, Burton East Staffs, Lichfield, Newcastle and finally Leek.

BURTON EAST STAFFS – PIRELLI FOOTBAL STADIUM, PRINCESS WAY, BURTON (TUESDAYS)

CANNOCK – CANNOCK FIRE STATION, CANNOCK (MONDAYS)

LICHFIELD – LICHFIELD POLICE STATIION, EASTERN AVENUE, LICHFIELD (FRIDAYS)

MOORLANDS (LEEK) – LEEK POLICE STATION (FRIDAYS)

NEWCASTLE – NEWCASTLE COLLEGE, KNUTTON LANE (WEDNESDAYS)

STAFFORD – POLICE HEADQUARTERS, WESTON ROAD, STAFFORD (WEDNESDAYS)

STOKE NORTH (BURSLEM) HORIZON MERIDIAN ACADEMY (WEDNESDAYS)

STOKE SOUTH (LONGTON) – ORMISTON MERIDIAN ACADEMY, MEIR (MONDAYS)

TAMWORTH – STATFOLD BARN RAILWAY MUSEUM, TAMWORTH (THURSDAYS)

**Timings are 18:30 to 21:00 Hours**

Each Unit operates with approximately 30 Cadets ranging in ages from 13 – 18 years. The scheme is run by Staffordshire Police and provides full uniform and activities centred on the National Volunteer Police Cadet Scheme.

Cadets are expected to attend their meetings once a week usually between 18-30 hrs to 21-30 hrs. In that time they are inspected and marks awarded for uniform turnout and drill.

No money from the Staffordshire Police budget is directed to the Cadets and as a result they are subsidised by the Police and Crime Commissioner and unit subscriptions are £6.00 per month/12 months and are paid by standing order.  Flexibility will be considered by the Force Commander in exceptional circumstances.

The Staff on each unit consist of Special Constables, Regular Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and Police Support Volunteers who give their time voluntarily.

The Cadets themselves attend as they see this as a development of their characters and they gain useful information and attributes which will help them in their adult life. We are not aiming at making our Cadets into Police Officers, not all the Cadets who attend the Units want to become Police Officers, but being a cadet gives a wealth of experience and insight into Policing and the support staff required behind the scenes.

We believe the Staffordshire Police Cadets Scheme is a fantastic way for young people to learn new skills and to become the good citizens of tomorrow. Units have inputs from Road Crime, Forensics, M.A.S.H. (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub), Road Safety, Police and Crime Commissioners Office, Neighbourhood Officers, Special Constabulary, CMPG (Central Motorway Police Group), Child Welfare Officers, Social Media, Firearms and many more to make an interesting and vibrant programme for the Cadets.

To apply, complete a Request to join form. We will take names for new cadets once they turn 12 years of age so they can go on the waiting list before they turn 13 which is the minimum age to join a Unit.  At 18yrs, Cadets can be invited to become a Volunteer Cadet Assistant Leader and work with the Unit Teams to continue to provide opportunities for future young people.  Unfortunately, as all Police Force cadet programmes operate separately, we are only able to accept young people from within Staffordshire into our units.
